Questions, answered.
How much does Notata cost?+
Notata costs $14.99 per year, with a 1-month free trial. That single subscription includes every feature — capture, timeline, trips, map, lifeline, Apple Watch, slideshows, Trip Stories, and sharing. There is no free tier and no second subscription. Apple grants the free trial once per Apple ID, so if you’ve subscribed before, resubscribing bills straight away.
Do I need an account?+
Not to use Notata. It works the moment you open it — no sign-up, no email, no password. An account is only needed if you want to share moments with another Notata user, and you can create one with Apple Sign-In or an emailed link at that point. Everything else works without one.
Where does my data live?+
On your device. Your moments, photos, trips, and home location are stored in a local database on your iPhone and are never uploaded in the background. There is no cloud sync, and no copy of your journal on our side.
Does anything ever leave my phone?+
Only what you deliberately send. There are three paths, and each one takes a tap: sharing a moment with someone in your Trusted Circle uploads that single moment so they can receive it; generating a Trip Story sends that trip’s notes, places, dates and weather to Claude (never your photos), after a consent screen; and the feedback email sends whatever you write in it. Nothing else is transmitted, and Notata contains no analytics or tracking of any kind.
Can I back up or move my moments?+
Anytime. Export your entire history as a single JSON file you keep, and import it back on a new phone. Your record is yours to hold and move — no cloud account required.
Do I have to write anything?+
Not a word. One tap captures your location, the weather, and the time automatically. Notes, photos, people, and ratings are there when you want them — optional, never required.
What if there’s no signal?+
Mark the moment anyway. Notata records the time immediately and fills in location and weather when it can — and if a fix never arrives, you can set the place yourself later. Nothing is lost.
