Notata is $14.99 a year with a 1-month free trial, and everything is included.
Pricing
How much does Notata cost?
Notata costs $14.99 per year, with a 1-month free trial. That single subscription includes every feature — capture, timeline, trips, map, lifeline, Apple Watch, slideshows, Trip Stories, and sharing. There is no free tier and no second subscription. Apple grants the free trial once per Apple ID, so if you’ve subscribed before, resubscribing bills straight away.
What’s included in the free trial?
Everything. Notata has no free tier, no locked features, and no upgrade path — the 1-month trial is the whole app, and so is the subscription that follows it. Nothing you set up during the trial is taken away or held back afterwards.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time, from your subscription settings in the App Store. You keep full access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Everything you recorded stays on your device, and you can export all of it as a JSON file whenever you like.
Is Notata available on Android?
No. Notata is built for iPhone and Apple Watch, and there is no Android version today.
Privacy and data
Do I need an account?
Not to use Notata. It works the moment you open it — no sign-up, no email, no password. An account is only needed if you want to share moments with another Notata user, and you can create one with Apple Sign-In or an emailed link at that point. Everything else works without one.
Where does my data live?
On your device. Your moments, photos, trips, and home location are stored in a local database on your iPhone and are never uploaded in the background. There is no cloud sync, and no copy of your journal on our side.
Does anything ever leave my phone?
Only what you deliberately send. There are three paths, and each one takes a tap: sharing a moment with someone in your Trusted Circle uploads that single moment so they can receive it; generating a Trip Story sends that trip’s notes, places, dates and weather to Claude (never your photos), after a consent screen; and the feedback email sends whatever you write in it. Nothing else is transmitted, and Notata contains no analytics or tracking of any kind.
Does Notata have ads or trackers?
No. There is no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no attribution SDK anywhere in the app — there is nothing to switch off, because none of it was ever built. Notata is funded by its subscription rather than by anything it could learn about you.
Is sharing end-to-end encrypted?
Not yet. Moments you share are protected in transit and at rest by our hosting provider, but they are not end-to-end encrypted, which means we hold the technical ability to access them. We do not, and end-to-end encryption is planned. Everything you do not share never leaves your device at all.
Does Notata use my Health app data?
Only if you enable it. Notata can read your daily step count through HealthKit so the number is captured alongside a moment, and you can turn that off in Preferences. It is never sent anywhere.
Capture
Do I have to write anything?
Not a word. One tap captures your location, the weather, and the time automatically. Notes, photos, people, and ratings are there when you want them — optional, never required.
What if there’s no signal?
Mark the moment anyway. Notata records the time immediately and fills in location and weather when it can — and if a fix never arrives, you can set the place yourself later. Nothing is lost.
Can I mark a moment from my Apple Watch?
Yes. Raise your wrist and tap once, and Notata captures the location and time instantly. You can add a note or a rating right there, or leave it and fill it in later from your phone.
Can I turn an old photo into a moment?
Yes. Import from your camera roll and Notata reads the date, time, and GPS coordinates out of the photo’s own metadata, then fetches the historical weather for that exact moment. Every field stays editable before you save.
Trips
How does Notata know which moments belong to the same trip?
By date. Any moment captured inside a trip’s date range is grouped into it automatically, so a journey assembles itself as you go. Notata can also scan your camera roll for trips you have already taken, using distance from home and how your photos cluster in time.
Can Notata write the story of my trip for me?
Yes — that is Trip Story. It turns a trip you have already logged into a short first-person narrative built only from what you actually recorded: your notes, the places you marked, the dates, and the weather. It runs on request, after a consent screen, and your photos never leave your device.
Does Trip Story make things up?
No. It may only assert what your own data supports — your moment notes, place names, dates, weather, and nearby landmark names. It cannot invent names of people, dialogue, or emotions you didn’t write down, and where the facts are thin a section stays short rather than being padded out. If your note contradicts the weather data, your note wins.
Do my photos get sent anywhere when Notata writes a trip story?
No. Trip Story sends text only — notes, place names, dates, weather, and nearby landmark names. Your photos never leave your device; the story is illustrated on the phone afterwards from the shots you favourited.
Can I make a slideshow of a trip?
Yes. Heart your favourite photos inside a trip and Notata builds a full-screen slideshow from them, with the location, note, and weather for each moment, and an end card with the trip’s route map. The photos are copied into the app when it is generated, so the slideshow keeps playing even if the originals later leave your camera roll.
Sharing
Can I share moments with other people?
Two ways. A share card renders the moment as an image you can send to anyone through Messages, email, or any share target — they do not need Notata. The Trusted Circle sends a moment directly to another Notata user you have invited and who has accepted; that one needs an account on both sides. There is no feed, no followers, and no discovery.
What happens if I revoke a share?
The other person loses access to the shared copy. If they had already imported it into their own moments before you revoked it, that copy is theirs and cannot be recalled — the same as any photo you have already sent someone.
Backup and portability
Can I back up or move my moments?
Anytime. Export your entire history as a single JSON file you keep, and import it back on a new phone. Your record is yours to hold and move — no cloud account required.
Can I get my photos into a normal Photos album?
Yes. Save Photos to Album puts every photo and video from a trip into a named album in Photos. Items already in your camera roll are added by reference rather than duplicated, and running it again updates the same album.
