Notata

FAQ

Do I need to create an account?

No. Notata has no sign-up and no login — it works the moment you open it.

Is my data backed up anywhere automatically?

No — everything stays on your device. You can make your own copy any time with Export Backup in Settings → Data, and restore it on any device with Import Backup.

Does Notata need an internet connection?

Your moments, photos, and notes are captured and stored locally. Weather and nearby Wikipedia lookups happen at the moment you mark a moment and need a connection then — browsing your existing timeline afterward doesn't.

What devices does Notata run on?

iPhone, with a companion Apple Watch app so you can mark a moment right from your wrist.

Can I get my data out if I stop using Notata?

Yes. Export a full backup of your moments as a JSON file at any time — it's yours, not locked into the app.

Does finding trips in my photos upload anything?

No. The scan reads photo locations and timestamps on-device only, never the images themselves, and nothing is sent anywhere during it. Afterward you're prompted to drop back to limited photo access if you'd like.
